Trinidad
was discovered in November 1595 by a Portuguese sea captain. When rediscovered in
1775 by Spanish captains, Hezeta and Bodega, a cross was erected and the first Christian
service in California history was held. They christened the port La Santisima
Trinidad. |

During the Gold Rush days of the
mid 1850's, |
Trinidad was the
main port of entry to anxious gold miners. |
Our small port
then supported a population |
of 3000+
inhabitants. |

From 1860 to the present, Trinidad harbor
has served as a whaling station, a lumber port, and the commercial and sport fisheries. |
